Liautaud Professor Elected

Tom Murtha, professor of management, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Industry Studies Association. The ISA is a multidisciplinary academic association established with an Alfred P. Sloan Foundation development grant to provide a research forum and promote faculty career development in industry-based theoretical and empirical studies.

Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) Group Information Session

UIC Liautaud is very fortunate to have Rachel LaVelle, Senior Manager, Partner Services Management, Global Operations to be a guest speaker.  She will discuss the operations and structure of the CME Group including the experience they would look for when hiring for internships and full time positions. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the CME Group and their vision for future operations.

Rachel earned her BA degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago in Art History and an MBA in Leadership and Change Management from DePaul.   Currently, she works as an operations manager for partner exchanges. Jim Liautaud, benefactor of UIC’s Liautaud Graduate School of Business was featured in a Wall Street Journal article entitled “Profiles in Retirement”.

Liautaud Graduates Win Young Innovators Award

MBA graduates Dr. Amir Bastawrous, Michael McCoy and Matthew Norris were awarded the 2009 Young Innovator Award at the Chicago Innovation Awards for their start-up medical device company, Heartsounds, which they started in Liautaud’s Tech Ventures Program. Read more about their win here.

Hoobler Recipient of Best Paper Award

Jenny Hoobler, assistant professor of managerial studies, with her coauthor Dr. James Burton at NIU, received the Best Paper Award at the Southern Management Association annual meeting in Asheville, NC, for her paper “Aggressive Reactions to Abusive Supervision: The Role of Interactional Justice and Fragile Self-Esteem.” For more information on Professor Hoobler, visit her faculty profile.
