Supply Chain Management, Logistics, and Freight Transportation in a Changing Economy

The UIC Center for Supply Chain Management and Logistics will be hosting a symposium, “Using Supply Chain Management, Logistics, and Freight Transportation in a Changing Economy”, on November 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Illinois Rooms of Student Center East. No prior registration is required.

CFA Panel Discussion Tuesday, October 20th

UIC Liautaud is proud to announce an upcoming discussion panel with the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Society of Chicago. This year we will have three spectacular speakers at the event. If you would like to attend please see the details and RSVP link below. If you have a friend or co-worker that would also be interested in attending please have them RSVP as well. There will be Liautaud staff and Student Ambassadors on hand after the discussion to answer any questions your guests have about our Graduate Business programs.  The CFA Society of Chicago has Student Memberships available, so you are not required to actually have the CFA to join.  This was one of the most popular events last year.

Joan Rockey – CEO of Hadelrock Capital Management

Ms. Rockey was the Director of Even Driven Strategies and the Chief Operating Office for Option Opportunities Company (OOC), and has more than 15 years of financial and securities industry experience. She obtained her M.S. in Finance from the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business at DePaul University and her B.S. in Accountancy from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Ms. Rockey is a CFA Charterholder, a Licensed Certified Public Accountant, Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Charterholder and a Licensed General Securities Representative (NASD Series 7). She is currently serving as Chairman of the Board for CFA Society of Chicago.

Matthew A. Litfin – Portfolio Manager at Investment Management

Mr. Litfin began his career as a municipal bond analyst at John Nuveen & Co. He joined William Blair & Company in 1997 as a Research Analyst and worked his way up to group head of the firm’s sell-side Business Services research effort. In this position, Matthew was twice named “Best on the Street” in the Wall Street Journal’s annual analyst survey. He joined Investment Management in 2007 as a Research Analyst supporting the Small-Mid Growth Team, and is now a portfolio manager for this team. Mr. Litfin received his M.B.A from Harvard Business school and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Tennessee with his B.S. in Finance.

Chris Lakumb – Fiduciary Risk Management & Investment Selection/Monitoring at RiverNorth Capital

Mr. Lakumb joined River North Capital in 2009 and is responsible for Fiduciary Risk Management and Investment Selection/Monitoring for their Retirement Plan Services Division. Prior to joining RiverNorth Capital, Chris spent greater than 10 years in the retirement services industry with InterOcean Wealth Management and Cole Taylor Bank. Chris received his B.A. in Finance from Lewis University. He received the CFA designation and the Certified Retirement Services Professional designation. Chris is a Chartered member of the CFA Society of Chicago (CFASC) as well as the Chair of the CFASC Social Advisory Committee. Chris is also a member of the Profit Sharing/401(k) Council of America’s Education and Communication Committee.

Liautaud Elective Fest & Mid-Term Social October 30th

Yes it is that time in the semester already! Come check out elective class offerings for Spring 2010 and stay to for the Mid-Term social. There will be special Halloween treats to snack on and its a great way to start your Halloween weekend!

Elective Fest is an opportunity for students to talk with faculty members and learn about upcoming elective courses. At the Fall 2009 event, faculty members will be promoting their Spring 2010 elective courses. Elective Fest will be set up as an informational fair, where students can visit with several different faculty members to learn more about any and all of the electives in which they are interested.

Take a break from studying! Come to the UIC Liautaud Mid-Term Social ready to eat and have a good time! Food and beverages will be provided.

MBAA Registration Going On Now!

In the culture of today’s business world there is a need for successful companies to have ethical standards greater than of merely following the law. In the formation of business ethics, is it beneficial for business and company leaders to consider the source of ethical business standards? Do they arise from the legal system? Business? Government regulation? All these questions and more will be discussed and looked at from a business, legal, and government perspective.

 

Attendance is free for all UIC alumni, faculty, and students.  There is a nominal $20 fee for the Chicago business community. Additionally, we do require pre-registration. Please see www.iiethics.org for more information.

2009 National CEO Conference

The 2009 National CEO Conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place in Chicago from October 22-24. Each year, more than 1,600 students, faculty, and others interested in entrepreneurship attend the three-day CEO Conference. More than 80 outstanding entrepreneurs and business leaders share their ideas and expertise with students on how they launched their businesses, the lessons they've learned, and where they are today.  The Annual CEO Conference also offers students the opportunity to network with peers nationwide. UIC Energy Symposium

The UIC Real Estate Group and the MBA Association invite you to the UIC Energy Symposium from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on November 10, 2009 at the Event Center of the UIC Forum.

The symposium, “How to Effectively Incorporate Energy Strategies to Achieve or Grow Profitability”, will feature speakers Lori G. Brown, president of Brown Real Estate Advisors, Craig Sieben, founder and president of Sieben Energy Associates, and Sara Beardsley, senior architect at AS+GG who is leading the modernization and greening of the Willis Tower.
